Library Closing Procedures

 

The aim of these procedures is to inform the library client of what is involved in the library shutdown process, as this will help you plan your time so as not to disrupt your studies whilst this necessary procedure is in action.

This will ensure that staff can efficiently and safely shutdown the library.

 

The University Libraries are complex, and need to be shut down systematically. Equipment needs to be turned off, (some examples include, computers, photocopiers and printers). Shutdown procedures need to be completed (some tasks include; door counts, short loans returns and circulation system shutdowns). Rooms need to be checked and shut down or closed off (some tasks include; Reading Room fire doors, Computer Labs and Group Study/Post Grad Rooms) For this process to run smoothly, knowledge of the procedures have been provided for all library patrons.

 

When the libraries are about to close an announcement is made over the Public Address System which will reach most sections of the library.

Information for the closing of ;

NOTE ** Please be aware that the Open Stack, located downstairs in the Auchmuty Information Common, opens at 8am and closes at 9:30pm on weekday non-holiday periods (on Friday it closes at 6:30pm) and on Weekends or Holiday Periods it closes at 4:30pm**

 

Auchmuty and Huxley Closing Procedures

Weekdays Semester Time (Monday-Thursday) closing at 10pm

 

At 9:30pm an announcement is made informing patrons that the library will close at 10pm and that all short loans materials are due and that ALL services will cease in 15mins. Items that need to be checked out can be either loaned at the desk or at the Self Check machines (these will be shutdown at the 9:45 announcement)

 

At 9:45pm another announcement is made informing patrons that all library services (such as borrowing, fine payments etc) have now ceased and that they can relocate to the AIC

 

At 9:55pm the final announcement is made, asking patrons to leave as the doors will be closed.

 

Friday Closing at 7pm

 

At 6:30pm an announcement is made informing patrons that the library will close at 7pm and that all short loans materials are due and that ALL services will cease in 15mins. Items that need to be checked out can be either loaned at the desk or at the Self Check machines (these will be shutdown at the 6:45 announcement)

 

At 6:45pm another announcement is made informing patrons that all library services (such as borrowing, fine payments etc) have now ceased and that they can relocate to the AIC

In addition the Library Weekend Hours are detailed “9am to 1pm under study hall  conditions and 1pm to 5pm full services available, Information Common open 24 hours.”

 

At 6:55pm the final announcement is made, asking patrons to leave as the doors will be closed.

 

 

Weekends (including Vacation Weekends)

 

Saturday Closing at 5pm

 

At 4:30pm an announcement is made informing patrons that the library will close at 5pm and that all short loans materials are due and that ALL services will cease in 15mins. Items that need to be checked out can be either loaned at the desk or at the Self Check machines (these will be shutdown at the 6:45 announcement)

 

At 4:45pm another announcement is made informing patrons that all library services (such as borrowing, fine payments etc) have now ceased and that they can relocate to the AIC

In addition the Library Weekend Hours for Sunday are detailed “9am to 1pm under study hall  conditions and 1pm to 5pm full services available, Information Common open 24 hours.”

 

At 4:55pm the final announcement is made, asking patrons to leave as the doors will be closed.

 

Sunday Closing at 5pm

 

At 4:30pm an announcement is made informing patrons that the library will close at 5pm and that all short loans materials are due and that ALL services will cease in 15mins. Items that need to be checked out can be either loaned at the desk or at the Self Check machines (these will be shutdown at the 4:45 announcement)

 

At 4:45pm another announcement is made informing patrons that all library services (such as borrowing, fine payments etc) have now ceased and that they can relocate to the AIC

In addition the announcement will state that the library will reopen at 8am on Monday.

 

At 4:55pm the final announcement is made, asking patrons to leave as the doors will be closed.

 

Vacation Weekday Times

Mon -Fri Closing at 5pm

At 4:30pm an announcement is made informing patrons that the library will close at 5pm and that all short loans materials are due and that ALL services will cease in 15mins. The information common will remain open until 12pm tonight. Items that need to be checked out can be either loaned at the desk or at the Self Check machines (these will be shutdown at the 4:45 announcement)

 

At 4:45pm another announcement is made informing patrons that all library services (such as borrowing, fine payments etc) have now ceased and that they can relocate to the AIC

 

At 4:55pm the final announcement is made, asking patrons to leave as the doors will be closed.
