Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)
|
Update November 2010 • We have successfully produced three rounds of AHEGS in 2010 for selected cohorts of students |
In 2010 the University of Newcastle has introduced the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) as a pilot program for targeted students who graduate with an Award of the University. All Australian universities have or will be introducing AHEGS over the next few years, following the guidelines and requirements as set down by the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
The AHEGS does not replace either the Testamur or the Academic Transcript. The purpose of the AHEGS is to make qualifications more portable and their value more apparent. The statement is issued to assist with employment and further study opportunities based on nationally agreed specifications. Students will receive their AHEGS soon after they have completed their degree.
Students will normally receive their Testamur at a graduation ceremony, with two copies of their Academic Transcript. Academic Transcripts are available for students to receive at any time during their course of study.
Unlike an Academic Transcript which contains information of all study undertaken by a student through enabling, undergraduate, postgraduate and/or research careers, the AHEGS relates to the degree a student has completed. In the case of combined degrees both programs will be contained in the AHEGS even if the student has only completed one degree within the combined program. For Honours students, their AHEGS will reflect their undergraduate degree if undertaken at the University of Newcastle, as well as their Honours achievements.
Also the AHEGS will contain information about a student’s achievements that are not currently reflected on the Academic Transcript.
