Adaptive Technology Centre

The Adaptive Technology Centre is a service provided by the University of Newcastle for students with a disability. The Centre is located in the Auchmuty Library, level three (main entrance level) behind the Video Conferencing Room. The Centre provides library and computing assistance, support and training to students with a disability.

Services include:

  • An accessible format translation service for students with a print disability
  • Training and assistance in the use of adaptive technology to enable students with a disability to use mainstream software applications and to access University and course related information systems
  • Provision of assistance to students with a disability in accessing the services offered by the library (eg physical retrieval of library resources and photocopying);
  • Provision of equipment for loan to assist students with a disability to access and record information
  • Informing students with a disability and staff about the access issues that may be experienced as well as the technological strategies for overcoming these access issues
  • Provision of information and advice to students and staff regarding the purchase, installation and operation of adaptive equipment and software
