Lecture Venue Information

The University of Newcastle has a vast range of lecture and seminar venues. Information regarding the equipment and technology installed, as well as the type of venue eg theatre, computer lab etc, is available by contacting the Adaptive Technology Centre or Student Support Services.

Students with a disability are encouraged to familiarise themselves with what technology is available in each venue. Technology such as hearing loops, radio microphones or document projection may provide a solution to some of the access issues faced by students with a disability.

To find out more information regarding the technology available in each lecture and how it might be used to meet your access needs, talk to your lecturer. Mobility Bus

If the documentation you provide when you register with the Disability Support Service indicates a mobility issue then you may want to use our campus mobility bus service. You will need to provide the days, the times and pick up locations to staff at least one week prior to the date you need to use the bus.

Parking

Mobility Permit

Students who have been granted an RTA Mobility permit are eligible for free parking in Disabled, Staff and General Car parking spaces. Your Mobility permit must be clearly displayed on the front left hand side of the vehicle's windscreen at all times. Please note that RTA Mobility Parking Scheme conditions apply.

Disability Access Permit

Students who have the need for closer parking because of a temporary medical condition can apply for a University Disability Access Permit. This permit must be clearly displayed in conjunction with a paid parking permit and enables the student to park in staff parking areas. Applications can be made through the Disability Support Service and must be supported by a current doctor's certificate outlining the duration the permit will be required and the reason the closer proximity parking is required.

Computer and Web Access

The University of Newcastle believes in providing access to computers and information for students with a disability. This may involve providing a large computer screen or an accessible desk in a computer lab. It may include one-on-one training to use an adaptive software program or learn how to use the library catalogue.
