Graduate labour market
For career planning assistance, you can make an appointment to talk to a Careers Counsellor.
Also note that the Careers Service has developed an online tool called Degrees to Careers in which you will find lots of useful information.
Your career planning should be informed by information about graduate employment rates, destinations and salaries. However, don't choose a career just because it has a high employment rate. You will not be successful unless you choose a career that you are suited to and enjoy. Look at the statistics, and use the information thoughtfully to ensure success in your chosen occupation - if the employment market is competitive, you may need to do a little extra preparation to ensure that you are employable. You may need to consider an honours year, or a graduate qualification, or you may need to get extra work experience in university breaks.
The Graduate Careers Council of Australia co-ordinates a national survey of graduate destinations. This information can be accessed via the Graduate Careers website.
If you would like specific information about the destinations of graduates of the University of Newcastle, please contact us at Careers and Student Employment.
