Edwards Hall

Edwards Hall, or 'Teds' for the initiated, is known for its spirired College community committed to academic excellence. As the oldest College at University of Newcastle, Edwards Hall has proud traditions and is home to 383 residents every year.  298 of these residents live in the main catered halls and 85 live in the self-catered unit style residences.

With so many students living in close proximity, life at Edwards Hall is about building strong bonds between residents.  It is more than a place to live but a lively community which builds your confidence and social skills while striving for academic success.

Campus Life

Esse Quam Videri - to be rather than to seem, sets a standard for College life at Edwards Hall which all residents aspire.  The College coordinates a large range of activities that encourage all residents to develop self-confidence and social skills.  Activities range from large organised events such as annual College dinners, outings and other sporting, cultural, art and academic activities. 

Living Arrangements

All residents in Edwards Hall have a private room and a shared bathroom with showers and toilets. Main Hall catered residents have a shared tearoom and self-catered residents have a shared kitchen facility with all the requirements for food preparation supplied. Tearooms have a microwave, fridge, instant hot water and sinks for quick and easy food preparation.

All rooms have a single bed, large study table, study chair, study lamp, heater, wardrobe and storage for books and personal items.

Services and Facilities

A recreation room, TV room, foosball table, pool table, outdoor swimming pool, table tennis and television lounges are available for communal use by all residents. For residents with an interest in music, a practice room containing a piano and a keyboard is located in the Forsythe Cellar, along with Foxtel, DVD player, music equipment and lounges. A design room is a new addition for those students that need extra room to work on practical assignments.

Food Service

Main Hall catered residents enjoy 16 meals per week, freshly prepared in our kitchen by our team of trained chefs.  A continental breakfast is seved on weekdays between 7.45am and 9.30am, and on weekends between 9.00am to 1.00pm.  Dinner is available in the evenings between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Individual dietary requirements can be catered for and for residents who have committments during dining hours can order a meal to-go.
