Services and Facilities

Food Service

Residents are served an evening meal five nights per week (Monday - Friday) from 5:30pm - 7:30pm within the International House Dining Hall. Residents are issued with a numbered meal tag by the Office, which must be shown before being served.

The meal is served cafeteria style and consists of soup, bread/bread roll, main meal, vegetables, salad bar and dessert/fruit. To assist residents who have to attend lectures during these times, a resident can arrange a takeaway pack to be picked up from catering staff before, during or after the normal serving times.

Meat and Vegetarian meals are provided. Vegan, Halal, Kosher and other dietary options are available if requested.    

Dining Hall

The Dining Hall also serves as a popular place for residents to gather and socialize. It is well equipped with a stereo system, television, Pay TV (Foxtel), video, DVD player, CD player, large screen and a data projector.pool

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is located adjacent to the Dining Hall for the use of residents and their accompanied guests between the hours of 8am - 10pm daily.  The pool is also surrounded by a number of wooden chairs, lounges, and pool umbrellas. The pool area is closed during the winter period (May-August).

International House Office Complex

The International House Office complex contains communal areas for the use of students 24 hours per day. It includes:

Billiards Room

The Billiards Room contains a full size billiards table and equipment (pool cues, balls, etc) for the use of residents and their guests. It is open from 8am - 11pm daily. The Billiards Room also contains vending machines for both drinks and snack foods.

                                                                       

BBQ Areas

There are three covered BBQ areas with picnic tables. To use the BBQ areas residents just need to book through the office.  Residents must provide their own cooking utensils and clean the area after use.

Parking

There are parking bays provided to residents immediately adjacent to the college. Residents wishing to park their vehicles at the college may apply for a free parking permit from the International House Office.

Bicycle shed

A secure bicycle shed is provided in which residents can store their bicycles. Residents with bicycles may obtain a bicycle shed key when they take up their residence.

Laundry facility

There are three laundry rooms equipped with a number of coin-operated washing machines and dryers that are accessable to residents 24hrs a day. Clothes lines are situated outside several blocks.

Telephones

All bedrooms are equipped with telephones allowing residents to make and receive calls at any time.  An extensive voicemail package also permits callers to leave messages for absent residents and for residents to send messages amongst themselves. Internal calls within the colleges and university system are free of charge.  To make an external call residents will need a Telstra phone card which can be purchased from the office.

Sending/Receiving Personal Mail

Incoming mail is delivered to International House Office each morning. Mail is then sorted by the receptionist and placed in pigeon holes based upon the residents' surname. Parcels are kept in the secure office area awaiting collection. Outgoing mail can also be left for pickup at the office. The correct postal address for residents' mail:

Faxes

International House provides a Fax service to all of its residents. Students are able to send and receive fax transmissions at a nominal charge.

Printing

Residents can print documents from the computers within the computer room. The printing can then be picked up from the office staff. A nominal cost per page will be charged.

DVD and Book Loans

A selection of DVD's and Books are keep within the International House Office complex. Residents can loan a DVD or book (free of charge) from the office.

Insurance of Personal Property

International House does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to the personal property of members. Members who wish to take out an appropriate insurance policy on their possessions should make arrangements with an insurance company of their own choice.

Security

For security reasons members are advised to lock their doors and windows while absent from their rooms.  For the added protection of residents and their property, the grounds of the colleges are patrolled at night on a random basis by University Security officers.

Shuttle Service to Shopping Centre

Every Thursday evening during normal semester periods, a free shuttle bus operates from 5:30pm-9pm between the colleges and the local shopping centre at Jesmond.
