Important Notices

Applications from International students for Semester 1 2010 on campus accommodation close on the 30 November 2009.

Applications from Domestic students for Semester 1 2010 on campus accommodation close on the 8 January 2010.

Please note that applications submitted without an application fee are not considered valid, and hence will not receive any correspondence. Late applications may be submitted, but have a reduced chance of being successful.

The Application Process

Applications will only be considered and assessed once the applicant has completed the 4-step application process by the set deadline.The 4 essential steps are:

  1. Successful submission of your online application form. Please note only one application per campus will be accepted.
  2. Payment of the $30 application fee (non-refundable)
  3. Completion of an online personal statement form; alternatively, download one in PDF format and then send completed to the college of first preference
  4. Two referee report forms to be completed by your selected referees and then submitted to your first preference college.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

If you do not yet have a student number, you can still complete an application. Simply leave that data field empty when filling in your application.

Late applications will only be considered in special circumstances.

Note: The validity of the application and the application fee is two semesters. If you have withdrawn your application for one semester and would like the college to consider your application for the next semester, please contact the college before the closing date.

The Selection Process

A high priority is given to applications from commencing students. The assessment of applications are primarily based upon the following criteria:

  • Commencing or first year students
  • The distance of the applicant's home address from the University
  • The information provided in the Personal Statement
  • The quality of the Reference Reports
  • Preference will also be given to applicants applying for the full academic year

The Offering Process

Completed applications submitted by the due date will be assessed and considered.

  • Successful applications will be sent the offer package by email when they have been accepted into their course at the University.
  • Successful applicants are given a place for one year only. There is no guarantee of re-admission for the following year unless they have been appointed to a Residential Staff position for that following year.

The Personal Statement Form in PDF format and/or Referee Reports can be sent either by post, email or by fax to the Accommodation Enquiry Centre.

Payment Methods for Application Fee

Credit Card

If you wish to pay the application fee with your credit card, you may print the Credit Card Form, complete it and return by mail to:

Cheque, Bank Draft or Money Order

Make out the cheque, bank draft or money order to 'The University of Newcastle' and then send to:

Please write the applicant's name and address on the back of the cheque, bank draft or money order for identification.

Cash

You may pay with cash at the Accommodation Administration Office located at Edwards Hall by completing a Cash Payment Form.

Do not pay your application fee at the University Cashiers.

Closing dates for application

Semester 1 (February to June)

  • 30 November – applicable to international students
  • 8 January – applicable to domestic students

Semester 2 (July to November)

  • 1 April - applicable to all students
  • 31 May – applicable to all students
