What is Homestay?
In Homestay you live with, and become a member of, an Australian family. You will have your own bedroom, eat most of your meals with your host family, and commonly share the family bathroom and laundry facilities. Homestay is a great way to learn about Australian culture and to practice your English, while making lifelong friendships with an Australian family.
What is the minimum period of Homestay?
You are expected to stay with your host family for a minimum of 4 weeks.
Can I extend my Homestay?
Yes. Once the initial 4 week period has passed, you can then negotiate with your host family to stay longer with them if you wish.
Will I receive a host family that reflects all my preferences?
We will try our very best to place you with a Homestay host who is able to accommodate your preferences, however this depends on availability.
Can my friend and I stay with the same Homestay host?
It is possible; however it depends on the availability of our hosts as to whether or not they can accommodate both of you at the same time.
Can I have friends come and visit me at my Homestay?
Homestay hosts are generally quite flexible and allow guests into their home. However you must discuss this with your host before inviting friends to stay.
Can I be placed with a different Homestay host if I have difficulties with my host?
Yes, however after the initial 4 week period to ensure you and your host have had adequate time to adjust to each other. If, after this time, you still wish to be moved, you can contact the Homestay Coordinator who will endeavour to provide you with an alternative host family. Of course, if circumstances are exceptional we will relocate you immediately.
How will I travel from Sydney International Airport to my Homestay?

How will I travel to the University for my classes?
Generally you are expected to catch the bus or train to University. Your host will provide information and assistance to help you access public transport. In locations where public transport is a problem, some hosts will drive students to and from the University and may request extra fees to cover petrol (usually under $30 per week which is less than the weekly bus fare).
Who do I call should I have a problem?
The Homestay Coordinator is available to discuss any situation that may arise. Please contact the Homestay office, the Homestay mobile or email if you have any concerns.
