Welcome

Welcome to the Evatt House web site. Evatt House is one of four of the University's residences on-campus and one of two self-catered residences. Founded in 1990, it takes its name from Justice Elizabeth Evatt, a former Chancellor of the University, and Dr H V Evatt, the former politician and statesman who began his studies at one of the local high schools in the Maitland area.

Evatt House provides single room accommodation for 211 tertiary students and residents come from country New South Wales, interstate and overseas. The community of Evatt House is renowned for its warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and is supported by a network of trained Residential Staff. In addition, residents elect a group to take on the roles of the Evatt House Resident Association (ERA) Committee members who represent the community and organize a range of social activities to help integrate residents.

The primary function of Evatt House is to provide a living environment conducive for residents to meet both their academic and personal needs. Members of the Residential Staff are selected and trained to provide support, leadership and to facilitate the integration of a diverse community. A range of academic, sporting and social activities are organized throughout the academic year for residents to participate and to provide opportunities for members of this community to engage and develop life long friendships.

Many students who have lived here often speak fondly of the Evatt spirit because they have had the opportunity to experience the warmth of the students who live here and the many life long friendships they have made in this community. If you have further questions about Evatt House or the process to apply for a place here, please contact the Evatt House Office.
