Master of Aviation Management

Graduated in: 2003
First job after graduation: Synthetic Flight Instructor (SFI)

Why did you choose to study Aviation Management at Newcastle?
The flexibility that the MAvM programme offered. It is an ideal programme amongst other courses that Newcastle has to offer on line. This eliminates the need for structured classes thus giving an excellent opportunity for budding students who work on shift to further pursue their academic dreams.

What was the best thing about the Aviation Management program?
The course material was comprehensive & well presented. With the aid of the Blackboard it allowed a great deal of discussion and sharing of experience and opinions. I also had the chance to meet others on line and further understood the different perspectives of my fellow working colleagues within the aviation industry.

How did you find the support and service of staff at the University?
The facilitator was very well learned and had guided us well in exploring the unknowns in discovering the full depth of the subject matter. The administrative support was second to none, queries answered promptly and all parties were very accommodative in trying to resolve and overcome issues.

Where are you currently working and what are you currently doing? How has your Aviation Management degree helped you in your professional life?
Currently a Synthetic Flight Instructor with Air Asia, Asia's leading Low Cost Carrier. My job entails me to train pilots from differing levels of experience taking them through the A320 flight conversion.

Due to the different nationalities and experience, my education has helped me to tackle the different crew with different styles and strategies to ensure successful completion of their training programme.

I continue to research on HF and get involved with casual discussions about HF whilst providing my colleagues a 'sounding board' helping to review the development of CRM & SA programmes.

The continuous discovery and research that goes on has made me a better crew and instructor, enabling me to guide my trainees to become better informed crew and I hope I have contributed in the reduction of HF incidents within the aviation industry. At a macro level, my education has also helped me to impart my knowledge and skill to the ordinary people whom I come into contact with.

What advice would you give to future students considering studying Aviation Management at Newcastle?
For anyone who intends to further your education, in a flexible way where you have control, I would recommend you to have a look at Newcastle.
