Nurses 4 Nurses evening at The Duke of Wellington

Nurses 4 Nurses (Callaghan) held its first student event evening on Monday 10th October 2011 at the Duke of Wellington Hotel in New Lambton.

Nurses 4 Nurses (Callaghan) held its first student event evening on Monday 10th October 2011 at the Duke of Wellington Hotel in New Lambton. The evening was sponsored by NUSA with prize donations from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, The Co-op Bookshop and the NSW Nurses Association and featured a series of industry speakers.

Scholarship prizes were awarded on the night to two lucky students. Congratulations to Simon Doyle who won a $250 Coles Myer gift card donated by NSW Nurses Association for his submission Top 5 tips for surviving first year and Katie Palmer who won a $100 Co-op Bookshop gift card donated by the Co-op Bookshop for her submission Why I wanted to become a nurse.

There were also two raffle prizes of textbooks, lollies and stationery with a total value of over $1000 and two lucky door prizes consisting of perfume, stethoscopes, lollies and mugs.

Industry speakers for the evening included:

Michelle McGregor
Michelle McGregor works as an Emergency Department Nurse and Educator & Educator for undergraduate students at the John Hunter Hospital. Michelle spoke about AIN positions in HNE Health, the New Graduate selection process, the New Graduate program, and what to do if you were not successful in gaining a New Graduate position. Michelle also then spoke about her journey from an undergraduate nurse on a medical ward to the Emergency Department at the John Hunter Hospital.

Philippe Millard
Philippe Millard is the Recruitment Liaison Officer for the Bachelor of Nursing student and a Health Forum regarding Barry O'Farrells government changes to pay and working conditions for public sector nurses in NSW.

Nurses 4 Nurses is a not for profit society for the School of Nursing and Midwifery whose aim is to provide students with networking opportunities and advice from industry specialists in selected fields of interest. Nurses 4 Nurses hold one event night specifically for students per semester and organise BBQs on campus too. All money raised through raffles, sausage sizzles, and membership fees are directed back into funding event nights, scholarship prizes, and donations to a nominated charity. This year Nurses 4 Nurses donated money to the Fairy Garden Project supported by the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
