Fairy Garden BBQ
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is hosting fundraising BBQ's throughout September and October 2011 to support the creation of a healing and education environment in the Children's Wards in Lampang Hospital in Thailand. The plan is to develop an environment similar to the Fairy Garden at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. The Lampang Hospital administration has given approval for the development of a Healing Space in the form of a Fairy Garden. It is anticipated that twelve Australian volunteers who will build the Garden in January 2012.
There are many children who are long-term patients, suffering from cancer, TB and HIV that are missing out on educational experiences at school, not only academically, also missing social interactions with other children in a positive environment. Environment is so important in well-being because it is part of a holistic healing process. Children need both stimulation and hope when unwell and an environment that involves and actively stimulates their senses can be a positive step in both psychological and physical improvement.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery will be holding fundraising BBQ's on the following dates:
- Callaghan Friday 9th September 12.30pm
- Port Macquarie Friday 23rd September 12.00pm
- Ourimbah Friday 28th October 11am
A sausage sandwich will cost $3 and a can of drink $2. We will be offering shoulder massages for a price of $5 for 5 minutes or $8 for 10 minutes. The School of Nursing and Midwifery hope for your support for this Health and Environmental Project.
