Head of School's Welcome
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle.
We offer high quality courses which contribute to both the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) and the Bachelor of Midwifery (BMid). Both programs meet contemporary best practice standards for nursing and midwifery education. You can study the BN with us in Newcastle at our Callaghan campus, the Central Coast (Ourimbah) and in Port Macquarie. The BMid is offered at Callaghan and Port Macquarie only.
Both the BN and the BMid are strongly linked to our clinical partners in the Hunter-New England, Central Coast, Northern Sydney and North Coast regions of NSW. Students are thus well prepared clinically and academically for rewarding careers in a wide variety of health care settings.
Once you have completed your undergraduate studies, in Nursing or Midwifery, you can undertake further postgraduate studies in such areas as:
- Advanced Nursing
- Nurse Practitioner
- Midwifery
- Mental Health Nursing
- Applied Management (Nursing).
We work in partnership with clinicians and educators from our local health services in order to offer jointly developed clinically up to date postgraduate courses for specialist nurses and midwives. We also offer Masters by Research, and PhD programs.
The School's Professors provide expertise across a broad range of clinical specialties and lead the research of the School in areas of:
- Aged Care
- Clinical Practice Development
- Symptom Management
- Mental Health
- Child and Family Health
- Health Professional Education.
As a student of the School you will be well supported academically and administratively.
On behalf of the staff at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, I welcome you to our school and wish you success for your future studies and career paths.
