Research Higher Degree Students

The School of Medicine and Public Health is committed to ongoing support of Research Higher Degree (RHD) candidates. We provide a high standard of research supervision. We also provide RHD candidates with material resources including financial support, lap-top computers, office space and equipment, writing and presentation skills workshops and statistical support.

Financial Support

RHD candidates have access to Research Training Scheme Student Support funds allocated as follows:

PhD Candidates four years support at:

  • $3,000 per annum for Low DEST FTE

Masters Candidates two years support at:

  • $5,000 per annum for High DEST FTE
  • $3,000 per annum for Low DEST FTE

Authorisation for the expenditure of these funds rests with the Principal Supervisor and can be used for a range of expenses including: direct costs that will be used by the student in their research, travel, training, equipment, subscriptions and publication costs.

Scholarship Top-Ups

Scholarship top-ups to a maximum of $6,000 p.a. are to be provided automatically to eligible APA Scholarship holders. The scholarship top-up will be reviewed on an annual basis, outcome dependant on research performance and subject to available funding.

Workshops

Each year the School runs a number of workshops available to RHD Candidates

Statistical Support

Statistical support is provided to RHD candidates through the School of Medicine and Public Health Research via the Clinical Research Design, IT and Statistical Support (CReDITSS) Unit.  Support through this service is free to RHD candidates for up to two hours per year. Students can receive advice and assistance with hypothesis formulation, study design, choice of instruments, data collection, data cleaning, and analysis, as well as assistance with writing papers and grant applications.

A similar level of support is also offered free to researchers within the School.

CReDITSS is also happy to do your statistical analyses or construct a custom database on a consultancy basis.
