Potential Candidates
INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL CANDIDATES
Recognition is growing internationally that the quality of hospital patient care is enhanced by doctors with generalist expertise who can provide effective and coordinated patient care across specialist disciplines.
As the number of patients with multiple conditions increases, we need more doctors with the clinical skills, organisational knowledge and capacity for inter-professional communication to manage patients at the 'front-line'.
Whatever their clinical roles in hospitals, these are the doctors that hospitals will need more of in the future.
NSW Health is proactively supporting the growth of a highly-skilled generalist medical workforce through its Senior Hospitalist initiative.

Candidates must be prepared to become familiar with Blackboard within the first week or two of semester.
Tuition Fees
The program is a full fee postgraduate degree with tuition fees being charged on a per course basis. The per course fee in 2013 is $3,280.
In 2013 applicants who receive NSW Health sponsorship will be invoiced for tuition fees of $1,968 per 10-unit course rather than $3,280.
Fees can be paid in two ways:
- Pay the fee up-front to the University.
- Apply for an interest free loan through the FEE-HELP Scheme (previously known as the Postgraduate Education Loans Scheme). The Government then pays your fee direct to the University and when you are earning $49,095 in the 2012/2013 financial year; indexed each year), you pay instalments back to the Government via the PAYG tax system.

Residential Weekends
Candidates are required to participate in a weekend residential workshop associated with each of the following courses:
CLAM6001 - Australian Health Service Organisation, Infrastructure and Management
CLAM6003 - Clinical Medicine and Service Provision A
CLAM6005 - Clinical Medicine and Service Provision B
CLAM6008 - Application of Leadership and Management Skills
The four Residential weekends will be held in different locations depending on the cohort. Most likely - Sydney, Newcastle and a regional centre. Candidates are expected to meet all travel and accommodation costs.
Weekends are planned as 'retreats', and include a social component. Normally the workshops run from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon.
Each weekend includes formal teaching time (dealing with subject matter that is less suitable for online learning) and less formal time, such as discussions about the challenges of providing hospital services in smaller rural communities.
Even more importantly, the weekends provide the opportunity for networking with candidates from other hospitals, and with senior Doctors and Executives in the NSW Health System. Candidates are encouraged to develop their own personal links with the senior leaders of the health system - the role that they're being trained to fulfill in future.
Graduate Certificate in Clinical Medicine (Leadership and Management) exit award
Where work or personal circumstances preclude completion of the full Masters program, candidates may apply to transfer to the 40-unit Graduate Certificate in Clinical Medicine (Leadership and Management) exit award.
