Teaching and Research Unit (TRU)
The Teaching and Research Unit (TRU) at Gosford Hospital on the NSW Central Coast coordinates both Teaching and Research streams of activity and is a collaboration between The University of Newcastle and Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD).
Since the Faculty of Medicine commenced in 1978, Gosford Hospital has had a medical education link with the University of Newcastle. Medical students have been undertaking clinical attachments on the Central Coast in general practice and hospital specialties since 1980. In 2002, nursing and allied health students also began to undertake their clinical placements at the TRU and clinical research began to be conducted.
The majority of students currently at the TRU are medical students from the Joint Medical Program (JMP).
