Honours Year

The Honours program is often viewed as a stepping stone to higher degree (Masters and PhD) study. However, an Honours program is also taken by students who would like to increase their knowledge and skill set in Physics, and not necessarily progress to higher degree studies. Some job advertisements do specify an Honours degree is required.

The usual study progression in Science at Newcastle is Bachelor degree (e.g. B.Sc), followed by a separate Honours degree, which may lead to higher degree studies (M. Sc. and PhD).

The Honours degree may be completed full (1 year) or part time (2 years). Entry into the Honours program is available to students who have achieved a GPA of 5 or above (Credit average) over the undergraduate degree. Students from Australian and International Universities are welcome to apply. The Honours degree at Newcastle consists of a 50/50 mix of coursework and one research project in one of the areas of research in the Physics discipline.
