Programs you would enrol in to study Mathematics

The Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) is a three-year fulltime program offered by the Faculty of Science and Information Technology. At Newcastle, the BMath offers students the possibility to specialise in Mathematics and/or Statistics while taking elective courses from a range of other disciplines across the University. We have active researchers in both pure and applied mathematics,and statistics. We seek to expose students to the leading edge of mathematical research from the earliest stages of the degree program.

You can also study mathematics or statistics as a co-major in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) program. If you undertake a BSc, you must study a minimum number of number of core science subjects as well as compulsory and directed courses from mathematics or statistics as well as the discipline you choose as a co-major. There are a number of combined degrees allowing students to focus on complementary disciplines. The following list of combined degrees is currently on offer:

• Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Computer Science
• Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Science
• Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)/Bachelor of Mathematics
• Bachelor of Engineering (Computer)/Bachelor of Mathematics
• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)/Bachelor of Mathematics

There are a range of other degree programs that incorporate subjects from Mathematics. For example in the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)/Bachelor of Mathematics students train to be high school mathematics teachers.
