Areas of Study

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences is the principal location for several Faculty of Science & Information Technology Undergraduate, Postgraduate Coursework and Research Higher Degree programs which offer specialisations in Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. The major degree program in mathematics and statistics is the Bachelor of Mathematics and the major program in physics is the  Bachelor of Science, where students can major in either physics or photonics. Students may also co-major in mathematics or statistics in the  Bachelor of Science  by combining these with other majors to suit their interests and aspirations. Further information on the Bachelor of Science, particularly the mathematics requirements, and suggested pathways and program checklists can be found on the Faculty of Science and Information Technology website.

High achieving students often choose to combine studies in mathematics or physics with other degree programs. The Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Science program is valuable for both those wanting to enhance their studies of science with the underlying mathematical models, and to further develop their mathematical studies with applications in the sciences. Similarly Engineering, Arts and Law studies can be enhanced by combining with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Mathematics. Other currently offered combined degree programs in these areas are:

Mathematics
Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)/Bachelor of Mathematics
Bachelor of Engineering (Computer)/Bachelor of Mathematics
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)/Bachelor of Mathematics
Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Computer Science

Science
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
Bachelor of Engineering (Computer)/Bachelor of Science - Physics major
Bachelor of Engineering (Telecommunications)/Bachelor of Science - Photonics major
Bachelor Science/Bachelor of Laws
