Current Research

PhD Thesis title: The social construction of obesity and implications for health and well-being in the Maori and Pacific Island community in Australia
This thesis examines how cultural practices around food and social disadvantage contribute to the incidence of obesity in the Maori and Pacific Island communities in Australia. It explores issues of identity and preservation of culture in the migrant context. It also identifies the impact of obesity related illness on the well-being of a culturally and linguistically distinct (CALD) group.
