Current Research

PhD Thesis title: Reading Karl Barth for Bioethics: On the problem of the common morality and the way toward human flourishing

Principle Supervisor: Prof. John C. McDowell; Secondary Supervisor: Prof. Terry Lovat

Research Interests

My doctoral research is focused on the theological anthropology/ethics of the Swiss theologian, Karl Barth, at the intersection of biomedical ethical discourse and decision-making, with particular interest in the common morality theories. In addition to my doctoral research, I have interest in theology and popular culture, as well as the theological and philosophical writings coming from the Russian Orthodox tradition, with particular interest in the works of Sergei Bulgakov and Nicholai Berdyaev. Other interests and influences include the writings of Donald MacKinnon, Jacques Ellul, George Grant, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Gabriel Marcel, Rowan Williams, among others.

Hobbies & Interests

I enjoy cooking (but mostly eating), listening to music (particularly folk & bluegrass), and reading theology (especially the works by Karl Barth, Rowan Williams, Sergei Bulgakov & Dietrich Bonhoeffer). If I am not doing these things, you may find me hiking, camping, kayaking, etc. with my wife, Aime, and our dog, Seamus.
