Conferences & Symposia

Angela Carter and the Fairy Tale Symposium. Friday 28 Nov 2008. A one day symposium exploring the writings of Angela Carter and the future of the Fairy Tale.

The ArtoftheReal conference: May 16-18, 2008: a national conference held in Newcastle on Creative Non-Fiction, with over 60 speakers and 4 keynotes, public events and writing workshops (in conjunction with the Hunter Writers Centre and the Sydney Writers Festival)

ARC funded NEER Research Cluster: Early Modern Women Writers: a collaborative international network whose 2008 activities include a national conference, 2 edited collections, a collaborative grant proposal and a series of panels hosted at an international conference.

Special Events

SWAMP e-zine launch - SWAMP is an online writing publication for Creative Writing Post-grads. Launched at Critical Animals as part of This Is Not Art festival. Saturday 04 October.

Writing Across Cultures - multi-cultural poetry evening in conjunction with Hunter Writers Centre. Monday 25 August.

Poetry without Borders - Writing Across Cultures Poetry Readings
An afternoon of poetry featuring multi-cultured poets from across Australia: Adam Aitken, Gita Mammen, Nora Krouk, Debbie Lim, Afeif Ismail, Vivienne Glance and Kylie Rose

Proposed activities 2009-10 include

New Ethnographies symposium and anthology: young and emerging writers (18-30) working in non-traditional narrative forms (in collaboration with Local Consumption Publications) (July 2009)

TheArtoftheReal 2 conference (developing a biennial National Creative Non-fiction conference) (May 2010)
