University of Newcastle library has special strength in religious and intellectual collections. These include the library of St. John's College, Morpeth, relating to the Anglican diocese of Newcastle, and the bishops' library from the Catholic diocese of Maitland/ Newcastle. The Tanner Collection has many works relating to the history, philosophy and cultural traditions of the ancient world.
