Bachelor of Social Work
The University of Newcastle Social Work program was fantastic! The BSW program is delivered via an ‘experience based learning model’ which involves lots of group discussion, group work, community projects, and self directed learning. It was very much a learning-through-doing program, which since graduating and moving into the workforce as a Social Worker, has mirrored the way I go about my daily work. In completing the program I certainly felt work ready and confident in my abilities and knowledge. ...more about Anne

Bachelor of Social Science
As a mature-aged student I came to university primarily to learn about the world and understand the myriad of social and political contexts that determine why people/groups/countries act the way they do. I enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science as it appealed to this curiosity, primarily due to its focus on sociology and social research, which I supplemented with a major in Politics and Policy.....more about Katrina

Bachelor of Social Science
I had never considered Social Sciences for my University career, simply because I was not exposed to the subject at all throughout my schooling. I really only fell into a Bachelor of Social Science degree because I took the subject during Open Foundation out of curiosity – and absolutely loved it! ...more about Danielle

Master of Applied Linguistics
Having worked in the EFL industry for seven years in Japan, I came to the Masters program with a wealth of practical knowledge but lacked a theoretical framework to justify why one methodology should be used over another. This program really opened my eyes to the complexity of language learning and gave me a fascinating look at competing theories. ...more about Matthew

Master of Applied Linguistics
I have worked as a Speech Pathologist both in Germany and Australia before I decided to take up postgraduate studies. As I still wanted to continue with my profession I was looking for an online opportunity to do so. The Master of Applied Linguistics (generalised stream) appealed to me greatly as its courses offered me the right mixture for both my professional and personal priorities and interests. Working towards a teaching position I found it necessary to gain a more thorough theoretical foundation in areas such as language acquisition, and aspects of bilingualism. Both areas are well covered in the program. ...more about Susanne

The Master of Applied Linguistics Program is very well organised and allows you to tailor the courses to suite your individual career goals. ...more about Ariana

Diploma in Languages
I studied in the BA at Newcastle in second semester 2009 while I was here as an exchange student. One of my courses was Elementary French, which I really enjoyed. The teachers were French, which was really important for me. They were always friendly and helpful, too. I found the teaching style different from what I have experienced in Japan, and it enabled me to begin to enjoy studying French. I felt that I was improving, which I had not felt strongly in Japan. This is why I was so keen to come back again and study French more at the University of Newcastle. The Diploma in Languages was a good option for me... more about Mari
