Student Forum

The School of Humanities and Social Science (SHASS) Student Forum is an informal meeting of students that aims to facilitate communication between undergraduate students and staff from all degrees and disciplines taught in the School. The Student Forum appoints two student representatives to the School Board. All SHASS students are welcome to contact the student representatives. While they are not formal grievance advisers, they are willing to discuss any problems you may be having and who you can take them to. If there are issues of general concern, they will bring them up for discussion at the Student Forum and make representations to the School Board. One of the roles of the Student Forum may be to organise social and intellectual events that can be publicised and supported by the School.

For further information, contact the School Director of Student Experience, Dr Catriona Malau

The School also hosts a Postgraduate Student Forum, details of which can be found on the Research Higher Degree Students page

SHASS Well-Regarded Lecturer Awards

At the end of each year students are given the opportunity to show their appreciation for lecturers by voting in the School of Humanities and Social Science Well-Regarded Lecturer Awards. All sutdents will receive an email towards the end of semester 2, with details about how to vote.

Congratulations to the 2012 winner, Debbi Long, lecturer in Sociology and Anthropology. 76 lecturers from across the School were nominated in 2012 and 24 lecturers received a Certificate of Appreciation.

The students initiated this award last year so that the forum would have a positive function as well as transmitting student complaints and communicating dissatisfaction. There were more than 150 votes this year - we hope that the idea will continue to attract support and become stronger and more prestigious in future years.
