Stuttering Clinic
The Stuttering Clinic is located in the Speech Pathology clinic (ground floor of the General Purpose Building) at the University of Newcastle. This research clinic also provides clinical education to speech pathology students under the guidance of experienced speech pathologists.
Treatment Programs
Currently the clinic offers services to pre-school age children (3-5 yrs), adolescents (12-18 yrs), and adults (18+ yrs). At this stage planning is underway to explore the feasibility of offering services to school age children.
The Lidcombe Program for Early Stuttering is used for treatment of pre-school age children. This program involves weekly visits. Currently there is no charge for this service.
The La Trobe Intensive Smooth Speech Program is used for treatment with adolescents and adults who stutter. This program is an 8 week program and involves one week of intensive therapy (group/individual) and seven weekly 2 hour follow-up sessions. A fee is charged for this clinical service. It is anticipated that the University of Newcastle will run two Intensive Smooth Speech Programs each year (one for adults and one for adolescents).
