Occupational Health and Safety
Occupational Health and Safety graduates undertake the preparation and implementation of occupational health and safety programs in the workplace. In many cases, students will be in positions of managerial or professional responsibility through which they are required to develop policies and strategies in response to the occupational health and safety needs of their organisations.

The Bachelor of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety and the Master of Workplace Health and Safety is currently accredited with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in the UK. IOSH is Europe’s leading body for health and safety professionals and has a role in promoting the standing of qualifications in OHS offered by higher education institutions and in setting professional standards.
Accreditation for the Masters program is currently being sought with the Australian Occupational Health and Safety Education Accreditation Board (AOHSEAB) for early 2013.
What will I study?
You will study topics including:
- Occupational health
- Occupational hygiene and toxicology
- Law for occupational health and safety
- Current practice in occupational health and safety
You will be challenged to extend your skills in raising awareness of Occupational Health and Safety issues and dealing with risks and dangers in the workplace. At Masters level, subject areas also include ergonomics and management and research subjects for Occupational Health and Safety.
Programs in this area have a particular focus on encouraging students' desire to promote the health, safety and well-being of others, and to help students develop a problem-solving approach to Occupational Health and Safety issues.
Graduates will be qualified to work in a variety of roles within the field of workplace health and safety. This may include OH&S Officer / Manager / Inspector / Consultant. Professionals can seek continuing education points from their respective professional bodies for completion of these programs or parts thereof.
