2011 School Prizes Ceremony

Each year the School of Environmental and Life Sciences celebrates it's finest students.

Applied Sciences

<p><strong>C.E. Wills Memorial Award (Joint Winners) -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the highest result in FSHN1010 Foods and Nutrition I, studying at the Central Coast Campus.</p>

Biological Sciences

<p><strong>Peter Hendry Prize in Biochemistry -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in BIOL2010, Biochemistry.</p>

<p>Presented by Emeritus Professor Barry Boettcher.</p>
<p><strong>Don Angus Memorial Prize -</strong> Awarded annually to the student who achieves the highest mark, if of sufficient merit, in any three of the following courses: BIOL3310 Plant Cell &amp; Molecular Biology, BIOL3090 Molecular Biology, BIOL3200 Cellular Biotechnology.</p>

<p><strong>Barry Boettcher Prize -</strong> Awarded annually to the student achieving the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in first year Biology courses, BIOL1001, BIOL1002, &amp; BIOL1003.</p>

<p><strong>Barry Boettcher Honours Prize -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best academic record in an unergraduate course offered in the Discipline of Biological Sciences and who will graduate with First Class Honours.</p>

<p><strong>Donald Peterson Prize -</strong>&nbsp; Awarded annually to the student with the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in CHEM1010 and CHEM1020.</p>

<p><strong>Delta EMD Austrlia Pty Ltd Prize -</strong> Awarded to the full-time or part-time student with the best performance,if of sufficient merit, in Level 3000 courses in Inorganic Chemistry.</p>

<p><strong>Royal Australian Chemical Institute Prize in Level 3000 Chemistry -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in Level 3000 Chemistry subjects.</p>

<p><strong>RK Whiteley Prize in Surface Chemistry -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best overall performance, if of sufficient merit, in CHEM3580.</p>

<p>These two students received two (2) joint prizes:</p>

<p><strong>Royal Australian Chemical Institute Prize in Chemistry Honours -</strong> Awarded annually to a candidate for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, undertaking Chemistry Honours, who achieves the best overall performance, if of sufficient merit.</p>

<p><strong>John Morris Prize for Excellence in Chemistry -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best performance, if of sufficient merit completing research "Aimed at benefiting either society or the environment".</p>

Earth Sciences

Daniel Collins - Berryl Nasher Prize in Level 2000 Earth Sciences AND Geological Solutions Second Year Geology Prize.

<p><strong>Prospectors Earth Sciences Prize -</strong> Awarded annually to the student in Earth Sciences GEOS1050 who is deserving of encouragement. The student must enrol in Earth Sciences level 2000 in the following year.</p>

<p>Presented by representatives from<a href="http://www.prospectors.com.au/" target="_blank">Prospectors Earth Sciences</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Geological Society of Australia (NSW Division) Prize in Third Year Geology -</strong> Awarded annually to the student enrolled in Earth Science Honours with the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in a minimum of four 3000 level Earth Sciences courses.</p>

<p><strong>Geological Solutions Third Year Geology Prize -</strong> (joint winner with Stephen Saul) Awarded annually to the student with the best performance in Third Year Earth Sciences studies.</p>

<p><strong>Berryl Nashar Prize in Level 1000 Earth Sciences -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best performance in Level 1000 Earth Sciences.</p>

Environmental Science & Management

<p><strong>Howard Bridgman Prize for First Year Environmental Science -</strong> Awarded annually to the student with the best performance, if of sufficient merit, in first year Environmental Science core courses. The student must be enrolled in the Environmental Science &amp; Management degree program.</p>

<p>Presented by Conjoint Associate Professor Howard Bridgman.</p>
<p><strong>Newcastle Flora and Fauna Protection Society Prize -</strong> Awarded annually to the student enrolled at the University of Newcastle who submits the best research project or thesis, on an environmental topic relevant to nature conservation, if of sufficient merit.</p>

Geography & Environmental Studies
