Ian Goodwin is an Earth Scientist with specialisations in climatology, palaeoclimatology and coastal geoscience. Areas of expertise are:
- Ice core and coral palaeoclimatology
- Climate variability in the Australasian, Antarctic and South-West Pacific region
- Antarctica and global change
- Antarctic glaciology and Quaternary glacial geology
- Holocene coastal evolution and sea-level studies
- Large scale coastal behaviour, longshore sediment transport processes, sea-level rise, wave climate and coastal stability.
- Impacts of climate change and sea-level change on coastal, estuarine and coral reef systems
- Coastal management and protection.
- Mitigation and adaptation strategies to climate change
