The underlying theme of A/Prof Moghtaderi's research is thermo-fluid engineering encompassing application areas, such as combustion, renewable energy (biomass utilisation, hydrogen production, and geothermal power generation), microfluidics, fire safety, computational fluid dynamics and laser diagnostics.
Since joining the University of Newcastle in early 1999, A/Prof Moghtaderi has attracted in excess of $5.5 million dollars from nationally competitive funding schemes (predominately the Australian Research Council, ARC) and industry (see the table below for more details). In addition, he has authored and co-authored more than 120 refereed articles on topics primarily related to biomass fuels in top scientific journals or conference proceedings since 1995.
While five PhD students have successfully finished their PhD studies under A/Prof Moghtaderi's supervision, six PhD and three Master students are currently pursuing their studies under his guidance. He has also co-supervisory role for three other postgraduate students.
