Surveying

What is surveying?

We need to be able to measure, present and understand the size and shape of our world and that is precisely what surveying does. It includes mapping and all matters involving land such as land titles, land use planning and valuation, and land infrastructures such as roads, bridges, buildings and dams.

Career options

Surveyors are experts in measurement and measurement systems. Surveying opens up many different employment prospects. It includes land information management and the use of the latest technology, including satellites, for positioning and remote sensing. This information is managed and presented using sophisticated computer systems.

Our program recognises that graduates may be called on to act as survey practitioners, consultants, managers, teachers or researchers, and that their careers may include several of these roles.

Graduate surveyors enjoy outstanding job prospects including positions in land titling projects, engineering project management, engineering drainage design, cadastral and engineering surveying, satellite and computer surveying technologies, private practice and government bodies. Many surveyors establish or join private practices and move into management roles in government and large organisations.
