I trained initially at the Froebel Institute in London before completing B. Ed (Hons) at the London Institute of Education. I have worked in primary schools in the UK and Australia for 28 years, teaching all the primary grades at one time or another. I gained a Dip.Ed. in Religious Education from ACU’s Queensland campus before graduating from ACU (Strathfield) with M.Ed. (Research). I am currently working on my PhD and am interested in widening my experience in the area of Professional Preparation.
Was awarded inaugural Excellence in Teaching award from the Diocese Maitland/Newcastle. Gained an IER award for my master’s thesis’ contribution to educational research. Have held positions on school executives
In times of constant change it is important that teachers develop powerful, personal pedagogy. This article reflects on past and present sources of innovation and insight.

St Patrick’s at Cessnock, New South Wales, is dedicated to making its vision statement reality: ‘we will nurture acceptance, tolerance, patience and love and will respect and celebrate our individual differences and potential’. In the changing economic circumstances of a small town community, living up to that vision has proved a difficult but rewarding challenge.
