Locations

Newcastle
Most of the Conservatorium's activities take place in the main Conservatorium building in Newcastle (Auckland Street).

Maitland
The Conservatorium operates a branch in Maitland offering a wide range of individual tuition, Early Childhood Music and Music Craft/Musicianship classes.

Library

The University's City Campus Library is situated on the first floor of University House. University House is located on the corner of King and Auckland streets (opposite Northumberland House). The library contains a vast amount of musical scores, recordings, books and reference materials. Enrolled students have access to the library's resources to assist with their studies. They may join the library for a fee of $22.00 per year. To apply, contact the library on 02 4921 8880 for further information.

Duty of Care

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to drop off and collect their child/children on time. The parent/guardian must inform the Conservatorium in advance if a person other than the parent/guardian is collecting the child/children.

Parking

The Conservatorium has only two very small car parks both of which are available only to University of Newcastle students and staff and only to those whose cars display the requisite sticker and permit. Cars illegally parked will be infringed by University Security and the fine collected by NSW Police. (Cost subject to change in accordance with University Policy).

Instrument Hire

The Conservatorium offers an instrument hire service to those students currently enrolled in Conservatorium programs in order to assist with musical study. Instrument hire is available on a per term basis at a modest cost for a limited period. A bond payment is required for all instrument hire. The bond will be refunded at the end of the hire agreement provided Instrument Hire Conditions have been satisfied. Enquiries regarding the hire of instruments, including the Conditions of Hire and Hire Fees should be directed to the Instrument Administration Officer on 02 4921 5176. Hire fees, bond rates and hire periods are available on application.

Security

A uniformed security guard patrols the city precinct of the University between 3pm and 11pm.

Student Medical Conditions

Parents are asked to report student's medical conditions to their teacher or to the Director of Community and Preparatory Programs on 02 4921 8936. We would also like parents to be aware that the Conservatorium has a First Aid Officer available in case of emergencies. Emergency phone numbers are displayed in all rooms.
