First job after graduation:
Journalist.

Why did you choose to study Communication at Newcastle?
I chose Newcastle because I am a local girl, born and bred. I completed my degree while living on my own, and it was good to have a safety net, to be in a place I knew.

What was the best thing about your degree program?
Uni is about the only time in your life where people not only have to listen to your views but grade you on them! It sure beats shouting at the television screen!

How did you find the support and service of staff at the University?
I found the academic staff to be extremely helpful. If you approached them with a problem they would do all they could to help. They were very understanding.

Where are you currently working and what are you currently doing? How has your Communication degree helped you in your professional life?
I am currently working part-time for a newspaper. I am also a casual reporter for two regional television stations. My degree has given me a good grounding to work in the industry: knowledge of media law, honed writing skills and an understanding of how it all fits together.

What advice would you give to future students considering studying Communication at Newcastle?
Focus on your studies and get involved. Get interested in the media, get in touch with local papers and stations. Be bold - talk to lecturers about what you can do to get the most out of it. The more interested you are, the more chances you'll find for experience and work.
