About the School
The School of Design, Communication and Information Technology sits at the intersection of creativity and technology, offering diverse and comprehensive programmes that are growing in importance, especially in an increasingly fast-paced and interconnected world.
Formed in 2001, the School brings together a range of disciplines that are currently converging in the digital sphere. These include graphic design and illustration, media practices and public relations, and information systems and technology.
Despite its relatively recent inception, the School has attracted some of the best industry experts and internationally recognised academics who are not only committed to imparting their knowledge and skillset to students, but also to boosting the research portfolio of the University.
Placing a dual emphasis on fundamental knowledge and situational practice, the School has equipped past students with the tools needed to pursue exciting careers in fields as wide-ranging as:

Facilities
The School of Design, Communication and Information Technology enables the manifestation of creative ideas through the inculcation of proper techniques and the use of state-of-the-art technology. Our students can study courses as diverse as music video production, 3D animation, website design, television production, and radio and sound recording. In line with our aim of producing job-ready graduates, the School has invested in purpose-built studios and industry-standard software and equipment, including:
- Full broadcast-quality digital television studio
- Radio studio equipped with sound recording facilities
- 11 post-production video edit suites
- Two audio edit suites
- Computer labs equipped with Apple Macs containing industry standard software packages.
Achievements
Our students have had music videos featured on RAGE, recorded EPs for local bands, and created content for the JETS’ website and TV. Our graduates have gone on to work at Triple J, and been involved with the creation of films such as Happy Feet, working with Sydney's award-winning animation effects studio, Animal Logic.
Our IT Graduates have gone on to work at international companies such as IBM and CSC, as well as at a range of IT companies and divisions around Australia, in areas as diverse as healthcare and manufacturing.
Our teaching and research emphasises the multidisciplinary nature of our professions, and through interactions with industry our staff and students focus on 'real world' applications to their disciplines. We are leaders in the recognition and support of practice-based research in creativity, and creative endeavours. Further, our areas of research excellence are wide-ranging, and explore the important areas of image analysis and processing, and health informatics.
The School currently has around 1,400 equivalent full-time students studying a wide range of courses at campuses in Australia, Singapore and online, and our numbers continue to grow in response to the range of excellent programs we offer.
