Politics and International Relations

The study of Politics and International Relations is provided on an inter-Faculty basis by the Newcastle Business School. It is possible for students to study Politics and International Relations courses as part of a major or as an elective in a wide range of degree programs. The Politics and International Relations courses offered by the Newcastle Business School are identified by the POLI prefix.

The course POLI3001 Organisation, Politics and Society is a capstone course in both the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce. There is also a "Politics and International Relations" major in the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Social Science where you can pursue an in-depth study of national and international politics. Politics courses also feature in the Bachelor of Development Studies

No prior knowledge is assumed for students enrolled in first-year Politics and International Relations. You do not need to have studied Politics and International Relations at school. The first year courses, "Introduction to Politics" and "Australian Politics and Government", are designed to provide you with the background necessary for further study in Politics and International Relations (and other related areas of study).

Honours in Politics and International Relations

Honours in Politics and International Relations in the Newcastle Business School is open to all suitably qualified students who have successfully completed their undergraduate degree with a major in Politics and International Relations. Entry to Honours Politics and International Relations is competitive and based on academic merit. The minimum entry requirement is a Credit average for the whole undergraduate degree. However, preference will be given to students with a Distinction average or better in their Politics and International Relations major. The final decision will also depend on the availability of staff and resources to enable the proposed area of thesis research to be undertaken and remains at the discretion of the Head of the Newcastle Business School, in consultation with the Politics and International Relations staff.

The Honours program consists of four courses normally taken over one year of full-time study. All students contemplating enrolling in Honours in Politics and International Relations should contact Assoc. Prof. Jim Jose.
