Emergency architects

From this year, construction management, project management, and architecture students will have the opportunity to participate in the international humanitarian effort to rebuild areas affected by disasters.

By selecting a 10-unit elective, you can take part in a four-week program during the mid-year semester break, conducted in partnership with Emergency Architects Australia.

Emergency Architects is a global independent, not-for-profit organisation that sends experienced architects and other built environment specialists to disaster areas to develop and implement appropriate and sustainable strategies for each phase of disaster relief.

In conjunction with aid agencies, local communities, governments and funding institutions, Emergency Architects assists to rebuild devastated areas, with the common belief that the construction of permanent (rather than temporary) structures, using local materials, will deliver effective and sustainable long-term results for communities affected by disaster.

While we don't know where we will be assisting this year, the group has previously provided relief efforts for the Queensland floods, Victorian bushfires, Pakistan, Soloman Islands, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, PNG and Aceh.

The University is currently looking for donors to help fund $4,000 scholarships which will cover the costs of training, flights, accommodation and living expenses incurred while on the program. Download this pdf to find out how to become a scholarship sponsor.
