Teaching Interests:
  • My first published book was advice to Higher School Certificate students in New Zealand on project writing. At that time, in the late 1980s, project work contributed 20% to the assessment of the New Zealand Bursaries paper Mathematics with Statistics.
  • A parallel book for honours and thesis students is available at http://www.math.uow.edu.au/current/writing_02.pdf.
  • I enjoy teaching the full gamut of statistics courses - service and mainstream courses, large and small classes, remedial to postgraduate students.
  • I have marked Higher School Certificate examinations in Australia and have both moderated and marked Higher School Certificate examinations in New Zealand.
Supervision of Students:
  • John Best (PhD, Tests of Fit and Other Nonparametric Data Analysis, 1999)
  • Anthony Carolan (PhD, Partially Parametric Testing, 2000)
Professional Positions:
  • Lecturer-Senior Lecturer, University of Otago (1973-1992)
  • Senior Lecturer-Associate Professor, University of Wollongong (1992 - 2006)
