Qualifications:
  • BA Hons (UNE)
  • PhD (UNSW) (1995)
Research Areas: My research focuses on global environmental change, particularly the use of natural archives to reconstruct past climates. Most of my work involves extracting palaeoclimate records from speleothems and tufa deposits, and understanding the ways in which climate information is recorded within these archives. I am currently involved in speleothem and tufa research projects in Australia (Barkly, Wickham River, Wombeyan, Jenolan, Cliefden, Nullarbor and Christmas Island karsts), Indonesia (Flores) and Italy (Alpi Apuane karst). This research explores both long-term (Milankovitch, millennial) and short-term (annual to centennial) palaeoclimate change, and involves several PhD and postdoctoral (link to Dr Janece McDonald) researchers. This research involves colleagues from the University of Melbourne (Drs John Hellstrom, Jon Woodhead and Roland Maas), the University of Pisa (Giovanni Zanchetta), the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) (Dr Ed Hodge), The Australian National University (Drs Steve Eggins and Mike Gagan), The University of Queensland (Dr Jian-xin Zhao) and the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (Professor Tony Fallick).
