These scholarships are available to students who are entering the second/third/fourth/fifth/sixth years of their undergraduate degree program.

1968 Singapore Colombo Plan Students Scholarship

This Scholarship was established by a group of Colombo Plan Students from Singapore who studied at the University of Newcastle from 1968 within the then Faculty of Engineering. On the 40th anniversary of their first entering the University of Newcastle, and, at a very different stage of their lives, the donors have decided to establish a Scholarship. This Scholarship is to commemorate the fond and happy memories of their stay at Newcastle and to show their appreciation to the Australian and Newcastle community who helped them with their University education during their tender and formative years. One scholarship is to be awarded annually to a 2nd year student from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.

The successful applicant may also be eligible for the 1968 Singapore Colombo Plan Students (Memorial) Scholarship, valued at a further $3,600, for the following year subject to meeting academic requirements.

Australian Rotary Health Research Indigenous Health Scholarship
Donor: Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF)
Benefit: One (1) scholarship is available, valued at $5000 to be paid in two (2) installments after each semester's census date. The scholarship is initially tenable for one (1) year, however may be extended at the discretion of the donor.

This scholarship was established as a jointly funded initiative between Australian Rotary Health Research and the NSW Health Department. The aim of the project is to establish a scholarship fund that can be used for the purpose of assisting Indigenous students undertake a program of study in a wide range of health related professions at the University of Newcastle.

Broken Bay Institute (BBI) Scholarship in Memory of Sister Leonie Crotty

Cerebral Palsy Alliance Allied Health Scholarship

Benefit: Up to 3 scholarships will be offered annually. The scholarship provides a benefit of $1500 payable in a lump sum payment. It is intended that funds are to be used to support professional development, fees, textbooks or practicum expenses.

This scholarship was established in 2009. The Cerebral Palsy Alliance and University of Newcastle through the Faculty of Health and Medicine and School of Humanities and Social Sciences have a shared vision for a viable, well-supported infrastructure of services for people with disability in New South Wales. As part of this agreement The Cerebral Palsy Alliance has established scholarships for allied health students within the Faculty of Health and Medicine and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The scholarships will support up to three students to the amount of $1500 per student to pursue their studies and to encourage their future career in the field of disability.

The Coal & Allied Community Development Fund has funded scholarships for students of the University of Newcastle since 2006 as part of its commitment to supporting education pathways and access to tertiary education for commencing students from communities in Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter Local Government Areas.

In 2013, Coal & Allied extended its program to provide scholarships and awards to continuing students. This award for third-year students aims to support and recognise the community participation and leadership capacity of ongoing Coal & Allied Scholars and acknowledge the role that students can play in promoting education and mentoring fellow students.

Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Outgoing Student Exchange Scholarship
Benefit: Up to ten (10) scholarships will be offered in 2014. The scholarship provides a total of $1500 to be paid as follows:
  • $1000 prior to departure to be paid as a lump sum.
  • $500 upon return.
In order to facilitate the final payment of $500, you must provide evidence that your studies at the exchange host institution have been satisfactorily completed and that credit has been granted by the University of Newcastle.

Advice that credit has been granted and recorded on your Academic Transcript must be forwarded to scholarships@newcastle.edu.au on return from exchange.

Friends of the University Sports Scholarships

Benefit: Eight (8) scholarships will be offered annually. One (1) Friends of the University Sports Scholarship will be available valued at $2000 and seven (7) University Sports Scholarships will be available valued at $1500 each.

These scholarships were established in 1994 to encourage and support students with demonstrated sporting ability and potential to contribute to the sporting achievements of the University. The purpose of these scholarships is to improve the quality of University sporting teams, raise the University's profile through sport, and establish a standard of excellence to complement the University's academic achievements.

Students are able to represent the University in a wide range of sports as members of University sporting clubs or at inter-university competitions. Student participation in sport is facilitated by the broad range of sporting facilities at the University which are among the best in the region.

Ionic Liquids Research Scholarships
Benefit: Two (2) scholarships will be offered. The scholarship provides the benefit of $1000 payable in 2 lump sum payments of $500. One payment will be made at the commencement of the research project with the final payment made upon conclusion of research project.

This scholarship has been established to provide opportunities for students studying 2nd or 3rd year chemistry with the opportunity to obtain research experience using ionic liquids to clean biofilms field. The student will be expected to conduct part time research during semester 1.

NSW Surveyor General Undergraduate Scholarship in Surveying
Donor: Department of Lands
Benefit: The scholarship provides a total of $14000, payable fortnightly over the academic year.

Recipients of the scholarship will be invited to undertake industrial training with the Department of Lands over the summer vacation period prior to their fourth year of study. Temporary employment (minimum one year) will be offered with the Department of Lands in Bathurst after graduation. Payment for the industrial experience and temporary employment will be provided by the Department of Lands and will be at the appropriate market rate, determined from year to year by the Department of Lands.

This scholarship was established in 2007 to support students entering the final year of the Bachelor of Surveying program or a combined degree program incorporating the Bachelor of Surveying at the University of Newcastle.

The Biennial Scholarship will consist of financial support during the final year of the Bachelor of Surveying or a combined degree incorporating the Bachelor of Surveying and is encouraged to take up temporary employment (minimum one year) with the Department of Lands in Survey Infrastructure and Geodesy, Bathurst after graduation.

Shaping Futures Scholarships

Benefit: The value and number of scholarships awarded will be dependent upon the amount raised by donations to the UON Foundation (including the Annual Appeal). Typically the scholarship is valued at $4,000. The payment will be for a lump sum amount and paid after the semester 1 census date (31 March).

This scholarship was established by the University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation. It is the intent of these scholarships that they be used to assist gifted and disadvantaged students with their studies at the University of Newcastle. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be academically gifted but are also facing hardship from factors such as being from a low socio-economic background, coming from a rural or remote area, living with disabilities, and carer or parenting responsibilities.

Funds are being sought through donations to the University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation (including the Annual Appeal) from existing donors and University of Newcastle Alumni to build and sustain the Shaping Futures Scholarship Fund.

This scholarship was established by the University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation in 2011. It is the intent that these scholarships be used to assist gifted and disadvantaged students with their studies at the University of Newcastle.
