Across the university and disciplines WIL can be known as placement, practicum, clinical placement/practice, internship, work experience, fieldwork, industry experience, project-based learning, experiential learning, industry based-learning, problem-based learning, professional practice, to name just a few.
This grant is to assist with the costs of participating in a WIL course at the University of Newcastle; this may include travel and accommodation costs, childcare and eldercare costs, and costs incurred by loss of income whilst undertaking WIL. The funds must not be used for any other purposes and must be spent by November 2014.
The WIL grants are available for students from all Faculties, across all campuses, who have a recognised discipline-specific WIL course available to be undertaken within the second, third, or subsequent years of their undergraduate program in Semester 2, 2014, and who are currently experiencing financial hardship in participating in the WIL component of their course.
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

Fifty (50) grants will be offered in Semester 2, 2014. The scholarship provides a benefit up to $2000 payable in a lump sum following the semester 2 census date. You may not be successful for this application if you have previously benefited from a hardship grant, or scholarship in 2014.

The total benefit may take into account the value of any financial hardship grant already received in 2014.

Please ensure the WIL required supporting documents are completed and uploaded during your online application.
Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of information contained in the application form.
We will request additional documentation in the selection process if you are a shortlisted applicant.
Consideration will be given to spread the benefit across different Faculties and campuses.
The selection committee will be made up of the Work Integrated Learning Project Officer and the Manager, Equity & Diversity.
The decision of the selection committee is final.
