EstablishmentTo honour the memory of Deliliah Van Wyk, a former PhD student of the University of Newcastle who has almost completed her thesis in Fine Art ceramics, when she sadly succumbed to cancer.

After immigrating from South Africa in 1975, Deliliah worked in Industry at Ricard Owens Food services, rising to GM. She was passionate in her studies at the University of Newcastle: An undergraduate degree, Masters and then PhD provided the pathway to success in her life. She believed in education and the pursuit of excellence. Both Ed and Deliliah worked hard in their new country. Her husband Ed wishes to establish the scholarship in memory of Deliliah to assist another student to fulfill their potential.

Applicable to: Commencing, first ( 1st ) year, Fine arts, Regional, Rural, Remote, Financially Disadvantaged, high achievers

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a commencing student
  • Be enrolled either full-time or part-time in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Newcastle
  • Not hold another scholarship of equivalent or more substantial benefit
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • Have resided in a Regional or Remote area of Australia at time of application for admission or Be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage

Provide a two (2) page written submission detailing your career aspirations and motivation

Benefit

$6,000.00 total paid in two lump sum payments per annum after the relevant semester census dates for up to three years of undergraduate study.

Selection

Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of:

  • For commencing students, academic merit, namely Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR);

AND

  • Assessment of the required Statement of Career Aspiration
  • Performance at an interview
  • Portfolio of artworks
