Establishment

This scholarship was established by the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Pharmacist Association in 2009 to promote and strengthen the collaboration between the University of Newcastle and the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Pharmacist Association, strengthen Pharmacy in the Hunter region and to encourage quality students to take up Pharmacy at the University of Newcastle, particularly students from regional and remote areas.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in the 1st year of the Master of Pharmacy program
  • Be enrolled full-time.
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Be a Permanent Resident
  • Not hold another scholarship

Required Documentation

If this documentation is not provided your application will not be processed.

After you have submitted your application, please print off the cover sheet provided and attach a copy of each piece of required documentation to it before sending in.

Provide a written statement (500 words maximum) on the following topic "Discuss how the delivery of Pharmaceutical Services may differ in 20 years time from what occurs today."

Please provide a written statement outlining your residential addresses for the past 6 years along with supporting documentary evidence

Benefit

From 2011, 1 scholarship will be awarded to a 1st year student for the 2 years. The scholarship provides a benefit of $4000 per annum payable in three instalments, one in each trimester after the census date. Payments will consist of $2000 in trimester 1 and $1000 in trimester 2 and 3.

Selection

Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of:

* academic merit

* a written statement (500 words maximum) on the following topic "Discuss how the delivery of Pharmaceutical Services may differ in 20 years time from what occurs today."

A 20% weighting will be applied to the rurality of each student as determined by the combined ARIA score for the last 6 postcodes. Documentary evidence will be required.

A 10% weighting will be applied to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

An additional 10% weighting will be applied to students who have lived (as determined by their home address) in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley and New England regions for the past 4 years.
