Establishment
These scholarships were established from the estate of the first Professor of French, Professor Kelver Hartley, at the University of Newcastle to promote the study of French and to assist students in this endeavour. Funding is derived from the Hartley Bequest administered by the executors, the Perpetual Trustees.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in any undergraduate program
- Be enrolled in either FREN2620, FREN3160 or FREN3701
- Be accepted as an exchange student for a semester at the University of La Rochelle, France
Required Documentation
If this documentation is not provided your application will not be processed.
After you have submitted your application, please print off the cover sheet provided and attach a copy of each piece of required documentation to it before sending in.

Benefit
Up to five (5) scholarships will be offered annually. The scholarship provides up to $10,000 to cover costs such as airfare to and from France, rail travel within France, visa, accommodation, a reasonable living allowance and health/travel insurance.
Selection
Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of academic merit, including performance in French courses.
