Hartley French Undergraduate Scholarships

Establishment
These scholarships were established from the Estate of the first Professor of French, Professor Kelver Hartley, at the University of Newcastle to promote the study of French and to assist students in this endeavour. Funding is derived from the Hartley Bequest administered by the executors, the Perpetual Trustees.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in the 1st year of any undergraduate program
- Be enrolled in French (FREN) courses
- Be an Australian Citizen or Be a Permanent Resident
Benefit
Up to fifteen (15) scholarships will be offered annually. The scholarship provides $2500 to be paid in two payments of $1000 after the semester 1 census date and $1500 after the semester 2 census date. Scholarship holders who fail to meet eligibility criteria in semester 2 will not receive final payment.
Selection
Selection will be on the basis of academic merit, namely Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent and performance in FREN courses in semester 1.
