|Establishment||These scholarships were established from the Estate of the first Professor of French, Professor Kelver Hartley, at the University of Newcastle to promote the study of French and to assist students in this endeavour. Funding is derived from the Hartley Bequest administered by the executors, the Perpetual Trustees.
Applicable to: French Students, First year, 1st year, high achievers.

Up to fifteen (15) scholarships will be offered annually. The scholarship provides $2500 to be paid in two payments: $1000 after the Semester 1 census date, and $1500 after the semester 2 census date. Scholarship holders who fail to meet eligibility criteria in semester 2 will not receive final payment.
Selection will be on the basis of academic merit, namely Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent and performance in FREN courses in semester 1.
