Cessnock City Council/Orica Mining Services RM Sheahan Memorial Scholarship
Establishment
This scholarship was established by Cessnock City Council and ICI Explosives with the aim of encouraging and assisting undergraduate students from the Cessnock LGA to pursue academic excellence in the fields of science and engineering. The scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Dr Robert M Sheahan, a Research Associate with ICI Explosives, who made many key scientific contributions to the explosives business worldwide. Robert Sheahan was a friend and mentor to a generation of research scientists and engineers working in the field of explosives.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in the first year of an Undergraduate program at the University of Newcastle
- Be enrolled in either a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry Major), Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) program
- Be enrolled full-time.

Selection
Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of academic merit, namely Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent. Preference will be given to students from the Cessnock Local Government area.
