This Science and Engineering Challenge scholarship aims to benefit a student who is interested in the study and application of Science and Professional Communication. The scholarship provides a range of opportunities across both academic and pre-vocational areas.

This is a full-time scholarship over approximately 20 weeks, commencing on Monday 22 February 2016 through to Friday 15 July 2016.

Applicable to: Mentors, Domestic students, International Students, Science, IT, Engineering, Education, SCIT2100.


To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current student of the University of Newcastle in any program, however preference will be given to students from Science and Information Technology, Engineering and Built Environment, and Education and Arts Faculties.
  • Be prepared to enrol in SCIT2100: Science and Professional Communication (or alternate online course if already completed). Course handbook available here.
  • Be prepared to commit approximately 35 hours per week for the duration of the scholarship (ie - full-time).
  • Be the holder of a current driver's licence.
  • Be willing to travel.
  • Be able to communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms of English.
  • Must be willing to, or already have passed, a NSW Working with Children check.

There will be one (1) scholarship offered in 2016.

The scholarship provides the benefit of a total of $9,000. This will be paid in fortnightly installments of $800 for 20 weeks, and one lump sum contribution of $1000 toward course costs. This lump sum will be paid after the semester census date.


Selection of the scholar will be on the basis of academic merit, as well as assessment of the required written statement, resume/CV and performance at interview, if required.

This scholarship involves a full-time commitment for the duration of the scholarship. An interview may be required to determine applicant suitability.
