Establishment

This scholarship was established by Mr Neville Sawyer to encourage graduates of the Engineering, Science, and Information Technology fields to undertake formal postgraduate studies in Business Administration, strengthening the business skills and experience required for future Industry leaders.

The successful applicant will receive payment toward up to 4 courses (40 units) in the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration or the Master of Business Administration programs.

Recipients of the scholarship are encouraged to become involved in other entrepreneurial groups, such as leading corporate accelerator Sling Shot. These groups provide mentoring and financial and key workshops. It is envisaged that future employers of these students will encourage them by providing financial support so that they may continue learning and gaining relevant experience through future studies.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in, or have accepted an offer of admission for, the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration or the Masters of Business Administration with University of Newcastle.
  • Have completed an Engineering, Science, or Information Technology with either University of Newcastle or TAFE Institution.
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (includes New Zealand Permanent Residents).
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

  • A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
  • A copy of your award and transcript for your eligible Engineering, Science, or Information Technology qualifications.
  • Up to 3 documents which demonstrate your academic achievement, such as awards and acknowledgements, participation in enrichment and travel programs or internships, academic competitions or challenges, your portfolio and/or cv.

Benefit

This scholarship provides payment direct to the recipient, equivalent to 4 courses within the eligible program, with an indicative total value of around $10,000. This scholarship must be taken up in the year for which it is awarded.

The scholarship provides a payment equivalent to 100% of program fees for the first four 10 unit courses (40 units) required for the Graduate Certificate Business Administration or the Masters of Business Administration. The scholarship is intended as a pathway for completion of the Masters of Business Administration.


Selection

Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria. Academic merit may be taken into account.
